To paraphrase Sommerset Maughn, South Florida is a sunny place for shady people. If a scam artist develops a bad reputation up North, he isn’t likely to resettle in Mason City, Iowa. Rather, he drives south until he runs out of road — and looks for a fresh crop of victims…
While ideally avoided, litigation is a necessary evil. Indeed, the courts are sometimes the only way for victims to recover money stolen from them by a scam artist.
I know that clients love the idea of a “pit bull” attorney in the litigation context. While litigation does entail its moments of chest-beating theatrics, lawsuits are less a sprint than a grueling marathon. For this reason, I forgo unnecessary histrionics and focus on the moments that count.
(I do carry a sharp knife in my pocket… Metaphorically speaking, of course.)

ELDER ABUSE AND EXPLOITATION

It’s an all-too-common story: an opportunistic relative or acquaintance befriends a trusting elderly person – and then fleeces them. Because of South Florida’s unique combination of retirees and scam artists, crimes against the aged are an epidemic in this community. Though law enforcement is reluctant to intervene in these cases, Florida courts offers strong civil remedies against those who steal from the elderly.
Through my elder litigation work, I help families recover the money they need to ensure a high quality of life for their aged loved ones.

FRAUD

With so many scam artists prowling South Florida for easy marks, the old wisdom holds doubly true: if it sounds too good to be true…
At heart, fraud is a broken promise. The specifics take many forms, including shady business partners, unscrupulous contractors, and self-serving “friends.” While it’s more cost-effective to do your homework and avoid getting scammed in the first place, litigation remains a valid tool for the defrauded.
